How it all began

We started in the summer of 2006, after Ron Lancaster was diagnosed with cancer (with his blessing!). We were born out of Lacrosse Fans Fight Cancer in Hamilton, but rapidly spread across the country including Winnipeg and Vancouver in the first year.  Right from day one, we had an annual event at Grey Cup: getting together, having a few drinks and raising some money for a local cancer charity. These days, that event is our marquee. But in the early days, most money was raised at tailgates. We sold bracelets for Lisa's Beads, scarves at Ticat games, and buttons just about everywhere. We also participated in Hamilton's Climb for Cancer eleven straight years, and held an event at the inaugural Touchdown Atlantic in 2011. Like a flywheel, things got a little bigger every year, and now here we are.

Shout out to so many folks who helped us get started: Randy, Jarrett, Bill, Garry, Cam, Brian, Jen and so many more.  And shout out to the dozens of folks that are involved over the last few years as we've grown 5X since 2021.

We're intentionally just barely organized - we're not incorporated, we don't have a board, and there's no overhead or administrative costs at all. We send money directly to local cancer charities so that every penny of the money we raise stays right in the local community to fight against cancer. You have our word, that'll never change.

Year by Year

Details from the early years are a bit slim, so we're likely missing another few thousand dollars from way back when.

We are so grateful for all that have helped us along the way, all those who help us today, and all those yet to cross our path.

These numbers get updated after each season - so this includes 2006-24.

The very essence of CFL Fans Fight Cancer is a grassroots movement where we all contribute in our own ways. Many hands make light work.We would not be here without so many people that have done their part along the way, and we remain humbled by how far CFLFFC has come. THANK YOU!

About CFL fans fight cancer

CFL Fans Fight Cancer (or CFLFFC for short) is a grassroots movement that has supported local cancer charities across Canada since 2006. Each year, we pick a charity in the Grey Cup host city and dedicate the year's funds to them. We raised $22K in Regina, $41K in Hamilton and $75K in Vancouver. Let's make 2025 the year we raise $100,000!

Want to help? Email cflfansfightcancer@gmail.com or honestly, just do your own thing and submit funds via our Donate page. Folks have done everything from poker tourneys to dunk tanks to watch parties to head shaving. Be creative, and let us know how we can help!

Our biggest event is a Meet N Greet each Grey Cup Weekend.  However, we've grown into a nationwide grassroots movement with events and donations all year. All are welcome, anywhere, any time!

We are not a registered charity and we have no structure or administrative costs - just a bunch of people raising money to kick cancer's ass.
